| REX, and its predecessor
Boat Torque, has had a tradition of providing
a large number of well-trained and qualified personnel
to the world’s maritime industry. In years past,
many of today's senior marine personnel did their
formative sea time on one of the Rottnest ferry
services. Unfortunately this has decreased with
the decline in the level of service provided in
recent times.
To that end Rottnest Express (REX), has recently
formed a partnership with Challenger TAFE and
the CCI to provide registered skills training
to its staff in a controlled learning environment.
By utilizing the extensive resource base that
Challenger TAFE can offer as a Registered Training
Organisation, REX will undertake to introduce
formal training for its entire staff in 2008.
The proximity of the TAFE complex to our terminals
will enable an efficient working relationship
to develop effectively, utilizing the facilities
of each organisation.
By providing the working environment that encourages
and promotes growth and education, REX is committed
to introduce to the Western Australian Ferry
Industry a standard of skills training that
has been absent for many years.
Building a partnership with Challenger TAFE
provides the opportunity for REX to provide
a local working environment for Challenger to
use in the delivery of its services. Senior
REX staff will also take an active role in the
delivery of lectures to relevant subject streams
within the TAFE. In 2008, REX has introduced
five full time traineeships that will provide
a structured career path for the marine personnel
of tomorrow. Trainees start at Certificate II
level and are enrolled in Certificate II Transport
and Distribution ( Marine Operations).
BMG and the management of REX are committed

momentum to achieve the highest level of safe
service delivery in Australia. REX has the ability
and resources to underpin the structured training
of future Western Australians marine personnel.
